1 Dec 1936 – 24 June 2021
Manu das Prabhu, was initiated in London in 1971 by Srila Prabhupada. In the early days, he would drive Srila Prabhupada for his London engagements. He spent his life serving Prabhupada’s mission, and spent most of his later years in Vrindavan. He built the Jagannath ashram temple in Vrindavan (donated to ISKCON) for elderly devotees to have a home there. He would visit his family for a few months in a year but he always said his real home was Vrindavan.
The last year was challenging for his health as he had a stroke and spent last few weeks in hospital.
His memory started failing BUT he never forgot Krishna and chanting HariNaam. In hospital, he would continuously and incessantly chant, even in his sleep. The doctors were concerned about his mental state as he kept on saying Haribol constantly and the nurses thought he was possessed by “Hari bol” which they didn’t understand. However, his son Sanjeev Khurana assured them that there was nothing wrong with him and he was in perfect consciousness chanting the holy names of the Lord.
A few days before he left, he told his son about his deep realization, “HariNaam is everything, It has so much potency, Harinaam is everything”.
HG Manu Das passed away in the morning of 24th June 2021 on Jagannath Snana Yatra in London just as their Lordship Jaganath Snana Ceremony was commencing in the temple he lovingly built in Vrindavan for Srila Prabhupada.
