Bhava Bhakti Devi dasi
15 August 1954 – 17 September 2020
Bhava Bhakti Devi Dasi was often immersed in taking darshan of Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda, and could be seen in the temple room completely focused on the form of the Lord . She had a deep connection with their Lordships and often stood in meditation, while chanting japa. She was highly devoted to her Guru Maharaj, His Holiness Bhakti Charu Swami. She also greatly valued her family, friends and the community of Bhaktivedanta Manor.
Bhava Bhakti Devi Dasi was born in Mauritius in 1954. After she moved to London, from the late 1990s she began to regularly visit Bhaktivedanta Manor and participate in sangas. Her services mainly included serving prasad, the festival Japa Garden and Deity service. In 2004 she was initiated by HH Bhakti Charu Swami.
She loved to travel with devotees, including going on pilgrimage to India and also taking friends to holy places in Mauritius.
On 17th September 2020, the same day as HH Bhakti Charu Swami’s own passing, Bhava Bhakti Mataji sadly lost her ongoing fight against brain cancer.
A tribute written by Vrajavilasini devi dasi:
All Glories to Srila Prabhupada. All Glories to Guru Mahārāj.
Farewell to my Friend and God Sister Her Grace Bhava Bhakti Devi Dasi,
A wonderful kind and gentle Vaishnavi, full of laughter, a jolly nature, always positive in any circumstances. With your kind and loving ways, you always lifted up my spirits.
You were always immersed in taking Darshan of Radha Gokulananda, and just focusing on the Lord . You had a deep connection with their Lordships and stood in meditation, while chanting until your service started.
Facing health challenges and other material difficulties, like a warrior, you were always fighting to get better and try and focus on spiritual advancement. Reflecting on our vacation to Mauritius, you took me around all the main sights including the Krishna Balaram temple. I met all your family and saw how you were so loved and respected. You were so close to your sister Rekha. You always valued family and friends, and lovingly cared for Ranjit, Rajiv, Krishna and your grand-children.
Seeing you at the hospital before your operation, you were very brave and took shelter of the Holy Name. You were so happy that Guru Mahārāj had personally phoned to wish you well, and you looked radiant with joy.
Before going to the operating room, you asked us to be present when you come back to the ward. So we came back in the evening, and you were so positive and were thanking Guru Mahārāj and Radha Gokulananda, for their mercy.
You have been very inspirational, keeping the balance between caring for family and performing devotional service, and practicing Sadhana Bhakti.
Our Guru Mahārāj gave you an appropriate name Bhava Bhakti Devi Dasi. Always worshiping Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda with Bhava . As our Guru Mahārāj , HH Bhakti Caru Swami Mahārāj said, “the real test is at the time of death”. You passed the test by leaving on the auspicious day of Guru Mahārāj’s Vyasa Puja. You are exemplary, and will always be remembered.
In appreciation of your wonderful qualities:
To appreciate the beauty of Deities
To find the best in others and connect
To chant with enthusiasm and with full faith in the Holy Name.
And your love for Vaishnavas and Guru Mahārāj, immeasurable.
Love, respect and trust were the things we Shared with full conviction to serve the Manor .
All Glories to Her Grace Bhava Bhakti Devi Dasi
Your servant of the Servant
In the service of Guru Dev
